Kissy

…aaaand we’re back.

The season of giving thanks and seeing my boys grow up before my very eyes has moved me to give it another go. I may have lost any audience due to posting inconsistencies but anyone who knows me knows my memory is really quite terrible and at least this way there will be a (somewhat) accurate accounting of just what the heck went on when the boys were young.

Witnessing the following event had me a bit nervous: playing with his Lego figures, Henry proudly thrusts one toward me and announces, “this is a boy Lego.” Out juts his other hand as he proclaims, “this is a girl Lego. And they are kissing.” (smoochie-smooch-smooch noises as he presses the two Lego figures’ plastic can-shaped androgenous hairless faces together) Hmmm. I was just preparing to remind him that we don’t kiss friends when out of nowhere a Lego sword pierces the boy Lego and he falls to the ground (groooooan) and dies. And THEN the sword attacks girl Lego and she falls down dead. So then I felt more at ease with things.

Happy Birthday, Frederick!!!

Guess who’s ONE today!?

Henry helped make the cream cheese frosting on my homemade carrot cake. It was delicious! Frederick got a fist-full of frosting and enjoyed the cake in a quiet celebration that the four of us shared.

Walking!

I can’t believe this little guy is going to be one soon!

So perhaps I shouldn’t be too surprised that he’s walking. He’s followed a real-baby timeline, crawling and then lots and lots (and LOTS) of “walking” while holding Mama’s and Daddy’s hands. For the past three weeks or so, he’s been “cruising,” or moving between pieces of furniture. When Henry was in this phase, he pushed the ottoman all over the place. Leave it to Henry to not move between pieces of furniture but rather move the furniture!

Frederick has been showing more interest in taking tentative steps over the past two and a half weeks. And finally, a couple days ago, he took some of his first real steps. We caught it on video last night:

It’s been a while since I last posted, but here’s a compelling reason to post now.

Friends, it is hard to believe we are at this place, but Reece had a very tough afternoon and we are not certain he is going to make it through the night.  He was doing well, but mid-afternoon his blood pressure dropped and his stats worsened.  They were planning dialysis today as his kidneys are failing, but they postponed due to his low blood pressure.  The one thing they are focusing on is his lactate, which is very high.  It likely indicates that something may be wrong in his gut.  Clinically, his gut seems ok (i.e. upon physical exam), but they are suspecting it is not functioning properly due to his lactate number.  They also believe there is another infection at work in his body.  We are told he is the #1 focus on the PICU tonight.  They believe that he can recover from this, but they have seen this go both ways…

My week in pictures 4/15 – 4/21/2012

Happy Monday!

During a busy week in April, I took a couple pictures each day and chose the ones that best summarized that day.

It may not look like much, but rest assured, there’s never a dull moment.

Because of said lack of dull moments, it may be a while until I attempt such a post again, since it took a full month to get the photos together, try to lay them out and get posted.  And I think the post still looks goofy, too.  Ah well.  Gotta keep trying to mix it up.  Have a great Monday!

Sunday, 4/15:
